Over the winter period a fish pond will start to slow down and there is no need to feed your fish, they become dormant moving very little not producing waste due to the low temperature of the water. The bacteria levels in your filter reduce significantly as they don’t have as much ‘food’ available. Filters and pumps can therefore be stored over winter and removed from the pond however dependent on the situation it can be preferable to keep the equipment running to provide oxygen and to stop the pond from freezing over. All pumps that maltby aquatics install have thermo cut off at -20 degrees meaning the pumps can be left out all year round. In severe frosts filters could technically crack, at maltby aquatics we provide a simple but very effective insulation for pond filters to protect the filter in harsh conditions.

Protection for Oase Filtoclear series, NB UVC is off to stop overheating.
