A Customer in Harpenden was after a new wildlife pond to replace their original small barrel pond. The brief was to enlarge the pond by at least 3 times, to include a large array of plants to attract wildlife and filter the pond with no need for pond pumps.

The pond was dug to a natural shape, sand and underlay were used to protect the pond liner due to a very chalky soil with numerous flints. A large planting area with a raised shelf to hold the planting zone was created which will allow a great natural edge perfect for many amphibians and aquatic life.

The pond liner was laid and folds removed, aquatic safe cobbles were used to build up the back of the pond, this was needed due to the uneven surface of the grass and flowerbeds. Aquatic plants were placed around the cobbles which in time when the pond matures will be covered. A natural grass edge will front the pond in time.
