Pond Re-lining, Sand and Underlay

The next stage was to start re-lining the pond. The first step was to add builders sand and off-cuts of liner which were used on the damaged sections of the old underlay. The new underlay was then used to line the pond, this new sheeting stops stones or roots from puncturing the pond liner and is relatively inexpensive. The underlay comes in widths of two metres so was joined using a blowtorch along the edges to get a continuous sheet.

 Pond Liner

The pond liner was next. Green Seal liner was used for this job, a cheaper alternative to Butyl liner with very similar properties of all quality liners. Due to the shape of the pond the liner had to be brought up and over the waterfall so underlay was temporarily used to protect the liner from being snagged on the rocks. This liner was 13×11 metres 164kg in weight!  The liner was put across the middle of the pond and then folded outwards, as the liner is a rectangle it is easy to keep square by following the seem lines and therefore reducing the number of folds visible.

The pond was gradually filled and shaped by hand to get minimum folds, bricks were used around the edge of the pond to lightly hold the liner in place and allow it while filling to pull in to its required level, the liner was cut on several occasions before making a final cut.
